GHOST NET is part of a series of quilts based around my interest in human impact on the environment. It is estimated that each year, 640 tons of fishing gear is lost or abandoned. Discarded fishing gear accounts for approximately 10% of ocean litter. Abandoned fishing nets are responsible for indiscriminately killing countless numbers of ocean wildlife including sea turtles, dolphins, whales, sharks, crustaceans, seabirds and corals.
